    Wise Tax hike?

I read in the paper that The schoold board wants the BOS to raise tax rates to pay for renovations. I wonder if the county tax payers may push for a cheeper solution?

Like what? Consolidation? That would be just as expensive building three new schools.

Either way you go you have a large bill coming, whether it is consolidation or renovation. I don't know what the answer is but let's face it the county is getting ready for a rude awakening when the numbers are finally crunched. They did not take care of what they had and it is coming back to bite them now. Anyway the citizens of Wise County better buckle up because the cost of fixing the infrastructure of the education system is not going to be cheap.

Thats a correct statement, but to build 3 new schools is fiscally cheaper than to renovate 6. Its gonna be expensive none the less, either way, but its like comparing between buying a BMW and a Mercedes.

I am more willing to eat a little extra tax $$ for new schools than I am to pump more money into aging and antiquated buildings.

I second that...The county that I am from is bigger than Wise and we only had one high school...That was 14 yrs ago ...Our population is alot more and we have no coal revenue...Anyway get with the times and put your pride and prejudice aside... MAD

Not about the times. It's about spending for what is right.
Problem is. Lies from the past haunt the future.

Either way. Refurbish or consolidation. It's Mega Bucks and not from the VA lottery. But from the Citizens of Wise Co.

Projections down the road is what no one is considering. Do you refurbish again in 20 yrs or consolidate? At an even more alarming cost for either.

Do what is best kids and economically. Either way if your in WC your gonna pay more in taxes.

    Re: Wise Tax hike?

The most economical without a doubt is consolidation.

You can spend less building 3 schools now or you can spend more refurbishing 6 schools and then in 10-15 years spend that again on the stuff that didn't get fixed this time around so then your at double the cost of 3 new schools that if done right won't need anything for 20 years and then it will pale in comparison to what it would have been to not consolidate.

There is noone with more school pride than me, GO BLUE KNIGHTS, but I am all for consolidation since it is what is the most logical and economical answer.
